3 SERVING
Ingredients:
  • 0.95 cup Lukewarm milk
  • 0.5 tbsp. Instant yeast
  • 3 tbsp. Caster sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 tbsp. Cooking oil
  • 2.25 cup Bread flour
  • 0.5 tsp. Salt
Directions:
Step 1
Step 1
1
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the lukewarm milk and instant yeast. Add the caster sugar, egg, and cooking oil, and mix until well combined. Gradually stir in the bread flour and salt until a sticky dough forms.
Step 2
Step 2

First Rise: Cover the bowl with foil or a clean kitchen towel. Place it in a warm, draft-free area and let the dough rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. This is crucial for developing the flavor and texture of the rolls.

Divide the Dough: Once the dough has risen, gently deflate it and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 9 equal parts, shaping each into a small ball. Arrange the balls on a greased baking sheet, leaving enough space between them for expansion.
Step 4

Rest the Balls: Cover the dough balls loosely with foil or a kitchen towel and let them rest for about 15 minutes. This short rest allows the gluten to relax, making it easier to shape the rolls.
Step 5
Step 5
5
Second Kneading: Work with one ball at a time, kneading each one for a few seconds to push out any air bubbles and to form a smooth, tight ball. This will give your rolls a fine crumb and uniform appearance.
Step 6
Step 6
6
Second Rise: Place the kneaded balls onto the baking pan, cover them again, and let them rise for another 60 minutes. They should puff up nicely and fill in the spaces between them.
Step 7
Step 7
7
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the rolls have risen and your oven is at the correct temperature, uncover the rolls and place them in the oven. Bake for 22 minutes. For the last 8 minutes, tent them with foil to prevent over-browning.
8
Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. These rolls are best enjoyed warm, with butter, jam, or as an accompaniment to any meal.
