Chef John shows you 2 ways on making simple and perfect rice and easy dinner using rice cooker at home. All you need is a tomato, a few ingredients of your choice, and a rice cooker.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Round Grain Rice 
  • 2 cups Long Grain Rice 
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 large Tomato
  • ½ tsp Salt [Seasoning]
  • 1 tsp Olive oil [Seasoning]
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper [Seasoning]
  • cup Ham, Dice 
  • cup Corn Kernels
  • cup Green Beans, Diced 
  • cup Shiitake Mushrooms, Diced
  • ¼ cup Carrot, Diced
  • 1 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • cup Celery, Diced
  • - For the sauce -
  • 1 tbsp Garlic, Minced
  • 1 tbsp Shallot, Thinly Sliced
  • ½ cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
  • ½ tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp White Vinegar, to taste
  • 1 tsp Red Chili Slices, to taste
  • 1 tsp Chopped Green Onion, to taste

Cut the ham meat, carrots, mushrooms, and celery into small pieces.

Remove the corn kernels from the cob.

In the rice cooker, add in both kinds of rice, mix evenly, then add water. Then add the following ingredients on top of the rice: one tomato in the center, then diced ham, green beans, mushrooms, carrot, celery, and corn on the side. Close the lid and press start to cook.

Prepare the sauce (to be mixed with the cooked rice). In a pan with cooking oil over high heat, stir fry the minced garlic and thinly sliced shallots until fragrant.

In the same pan, add water, soy sauce, oyster sauce, a pinch of sugar, white vinegar to taste, chopped green onion to taste, and the red chili slices. Stir for a little while until the sauce thickened. Remove from the heat.

After the rice cooker is done, pour the sauce into the rice, then mix well to serve.
