When it’s cold in winter, thoughts of golden brown ‘napa cabbage jeon’ often cross your mind. Napa cabbage, boasting of a sweet and deep flavor, especially in cold weather, makes a can’t-miss side dish on the winter dinner table. Coat the yellow cabbage leaves with flour, pan-fry them, place some soft textured stir-fried radish on them, and roll them. Then, it’s all yours to enjoy. How about napa cabbage roll jeon for this New Year’s Day?

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 Head Napa cabbage
  • 1/2 Large Korean radish
  • Pinch Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Flour
  • Cooking oil
  • Batter:
  • 1 Cup Korean pancake mix (Buchimgaru)
  • 1.5 Cups Water
  • Pinch Salt
Directions:

Wash the napa cabbage thoroughly and remove the excess water.

Mix all the batter ingredients in a bowl.

Finely julienne the Korean radish. Sprinkle salt on them and set them aside for about 10 minutes. Remove the excess water from the radish. With a dash of oil in a heated pan, stir-fry the radish strips until they become translucent. (Stir-fry them over medium-low heat to avoid burning them.)

Slightly coat both sides of the cabbage leaves with flour, and then with the batter.

With a generous amount of oil in a heated pan, brown both sides of the cabbage leaves.

Place the desired amount of the stir-fried radish on the cabbage leaves and roll them. Mix all the sauce blend ingredients in a bowl.

Cut the rolls into bite-size pieces and serve them with the sauce blend.
