Korean Ssamjang Creamy Pasta

Ssamjang, meaning “sauce for wraps” in Korean, has a wonderful combination of sweet, spicy, and salty elements. This easy dinner is loaded with succulent pieces of meat in a spicy, creamy, and umami Ssamjang pasta sauce. Topped with Kimchi, egg, and green onions.

Ingredients:
  • 6 oz. Linguine
  • 5 oz. Pork Belly, sliced
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tbsp. Unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp. Minced garlic
  • 3 tbsp. Ssamjang
  • 3/4 cup Cream
  • 1/2 cup Pasta water
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional Garnish per Serving:
  • 1 tbsp. Kimchi
  • 1/2 tsp. Green onions
  • 1 Large Soft boiled egg
  • 1/2 tbsp. Parmesan cheese

Add linguine to salted boiling water.

Pan-fry pork belly slices until cooked through. Set aside.

While the pasta is cooking, in a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter in a pan and sauté garlic and ssamjang. Then, add cream, stir together and simmer for 3-5 minutes. Add meat to the pan and stir to mix well.

Once pasta is al dente, add pasta to sauce and mix in parmesan cheese and black pepper. Slowly drizzle in pasta water a little bit at a time while mixing, just add enough until the sauce is nice and silky.

Top with kimchi, parmesan cheese, spring onions, and a soft-boiled egg.
